Here is another preview of some of the art that will be available at the November 8th sale. (Check out art by Annemarie Walther from the Sept. 18th post below)

This featured artist is Kris Nelson. Kris works with encaustics (hot wax and oil paint), antique papers and found objects to create paintings, collages and household shrines. She also makes large format expressionist acrylic paintings in a continuing series featuring black jazz musicians.

Enjoy the preview and we’ll see you November 8th!

The fun folks at Swive Tackle Circus are having a mural painted on the Minnesota side of their building.  We love anything that beautifies our community and adds a creative flare!

Wednesday,  October 15th is the last chance to see Ray Smith’s bold, surprising and FABULOUS paintings at Lux Art Institute for FREE. From 7 – 9pm enjoy art, music and refreshments without paying the normal $10.00 fee.  If you don’t know Lux, it’s at 1550 South El Camino Real in Encinitas. They bring one artist at a time to live and work at the gallery, we get to watch as the art is made, and then a show of that piece and others is offered. Ray’s piece is a 6 x 13 foot oil painting with Mexican-American images and great color. (Every month Lux has these Lux at Night events). GO!

While some may consider it a high school prank, apparently one person has begun their foray into street art armed with TP & plastic wrap.

Of course we can’t condone this…but it seemed worthy of a report!

Do not miss the newest exhibition at the Oceanside Museum of Art. Damngorgeous: Millard Sheets and His Southern California Legacy.

Unfortunately the night his daughter was there for the Preview Reception was also the night of the Vice Presidential debate, so many of us missed it–but the show itself really is DAMN GORGEOUS and Sheets was a Southern California treasure.

Before the Art Show and Sale on November 8th, we’ll give you occasional sneak peeks at the work of some of the artists who will be participating in the event.

Annemarie Walther is a Fire Mountain artist whose dog, cat and “other” pet portraits are charming interpretations—realistic, but created with just enough personality that you know they are a little bit different than your average pet painting.  Always upbeat, vibrant and utterly engaging, these small oil pastels on wood panels are perennial favorites!

Fire Mountain is home to more artists than you would suspect. Many of us are retired and have painted or collaged for years. Lots us have young friends, nieces or daughters-in-law who come to our studios and work side-by-side. We’d love to meet other artists, musicians and writers who live in Fire Mountain—and we are organizing a free event to introduce ourselves and, hopefully, to meet our neighbors. On November 8th we’ll be having a show and sale on Fire Mountain Drive. Elsewhere on this site is the invitation, but if you have any questions, please feel free to email the editors at firemountainartists@gmail.com.
