The Priority Boxes Project is one that the Artists of Fire Mountain have
participated in. We paint and otherwise decorate cardboard US Priority mail
boxes (because they are so square and cute), print on them: FRAGILE contains
hope–or peace–or generosity–and mail them off without a return address to
friends and family. The nieces who live in dorms seemed especially taken
with this project.
So–on May 22nd, if you can’t make it to the party on the East Coast, take a
moment to think of someone you love, and eat cake, too.

The Friends of Fire Mountain and our artistic friends will host an art show and sale at 2305 Fire Mountain Drive.

Just like last year, artists from in and around the neighborhood are welcome to join. We’ll have refreshments, a raffle of our art, lots of fun and a chance to meet local artists and art lovers. So far, nine artists are signed up–to participate, either for a booth or to help out with set-up and marketing, please email Kris Nelson at krisnelson@cox.net.

Last year--great turn-out for Artist Friends of Fire Mountain

Artist Friends of Fire Mountain(pre-opening)

17th annual Oceanside Days of Art
April 18 and 19, 2009 – 10am to 5pm

If you’ve always wanted to paint, but were afraid to try, the Oceanside Days of Art is for you!

This year the theme “Experience Your Creativity” will be played out with family-friendly participatory events including a stunning Circle Painting that the public is invited to work on. Organized by international artist Hiep Nguyen, this “paint-in” has been produced in 30 cities in 8 countries since 2007. To make reservations for your group to paint call 760/433-3632. To sponsor a painting call 760/439-7766.

Over 100 artists, both local and national, will display their painting, pottery, sculpture, glass, photography and multimedia works in booths lining Pier View Way and the Civic Center in Oceanside. Lots of live multicultural performances will take place on two stages during the two day event, including music, dance, poetry and a few surprises. The biggest high school art show in the county will also be there, a chance to view the finest of the work from local schools. And for kids, art teachers will offer free classes in painting and creating art from recycled objects. If you need inspiration before you jump in, check out the recycled and found art wonders made by local artists on display in the Library Community Rooms.

And lastly, the FOOD!  From crepes and steaks to hot dogs and ice cream, there’ll be something to tickle your palate.
More than 10,000 people are expected to attend.

Don’t miss this event. It’s free, parking is easily found on nearby streets, and it’s easy to take the Coaster (on Saturday) or the Sprinter (both days). For more information, visit oceanside-days-of-art.org or call 760/433-3632.
Sponsored by Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation.

Anita Romaine, chairwoman of the 2009 Days of Art is looking for new ideas and artists (or people who love art) to get involved in planning this great event. The next meeting is December 8th, at 6pm, downtown Oceanside across from the Museum of Art at the office of John Steiger. Fire Mountain Artists will be there–join us!

For more information, call Anita at 760/439-7766.

Thanks to all who visited us–and introduced yourselves and bought art!

The turnout was fabulous–hundreds of people came to see twelve artists and to share their art and desires for workshops and studio visits. We raised enough money to keep this website alive and growing. Please let us know if you didn’t have the chance to let us know that you are an artist–or you want to make art–or want to meet with any artist in his or her studio!

Ann is a fine landscape painter, but chooses to show her latest project with us: Caffeinated Cards. Each greeting card is handmade, featuring a teabag (yes! FOFM recycles!) and various bits of paper, thread, fiber and ornament as suits her fancy
